- Founded in 1960
- Encourages Ahimsa as part of vegan living, established 6 pillars of compassion: Abstinence from animal products, Harmlessness with reverence for life, Integrity of thought, word and deed, Mastery over oneself, Service to humanity, nature and compassion, Advancement of understanding and truth.
International Vegetarian Union:
- Founded in 1908
- A growing global network of independent organisations which are promoting vegetarianism worldwide.
Viva! Vegetarians International Voice for Animals
Vegan Outreach (US):
- Founded in 1993 as Animal Liberation Action
- Works to expose and end cruelty to animals through widespread distribution of leaflets.
The Vegan Society (UK):
- Founded in 1944
- Aims to advocate that human food should be derived from fruits, nuts, vegetables, grains and other wholesome non-animal products. That it should exclude flesh, fish, fowl, eggs, honey, and animals’ milk, butter and cheese. Also to encourage the manufacture and use of alternatives to animal commodities.
VVF (Vegetarian and Vegan Foundation) (UK):
- Monitors and explains the increasing amount of scientific research linking diet to health – providing accurate information on which to make informed choices. Working to end cruelty to animals.
