Chocolate cake
Chocolate cake is always a crowd pleaser and this one is so easy to make you’ll find it will soon become your go-to cake recipe.
Stuff you’ll need:
Cake:
- 2 ½ c plain flour
- 2 c sugar
- ½ c cocoa powder
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 c warm water
- ½ c vegetable oil
- 2 tbsp white vinegar
- 1 tbsp vanilla essence
Icing:
- 1 ½ c icing sugar
- 1 tbsp vegan margarine
- 3 tbsp cocoa powder
- water
How to make it:
- Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius
- Grease a cake tin with vegetable oil
- Sift the first five ingredients together in a mixing bowl, mix well
- Add the next four ingredients and whisk to combine
- Pour into cake tin and bake for 30 - 40 minutes or until a knife inserted in the middle comes out clean
- While the cake is in the oven, combine the icing sugar, vegan margarine and cocoa powder in a small bowl with a knife for the icing. You may need to add a few drops of water to get a good consistency.
- Once baked, transfer the cake to a wire rack to cool. Ice the cake and decorate with grated dark chocolate or nuts.
- This recipe is very versatile and can be used in many different ways - try halving the cake into layers and spreading the middle with jam and vegan cream or decorate for a children’s (or adults’!) birthday party with sweets, fruit or different coloured icing.
